Series Standing: Warriors 2 - Celtics 2

This time, it wasn't about which team utterly ran away with which quarter, though Golden State's second half shined much stronger than Boston's, but about a one-man wrecking crew.

Fresh off a foot injury, Curry hit the hardwood and scored 43 points and pulled in 10 rebounds that propelled Golden State to tying the series. But the biggest moments came in the clutch, hitting two shots — part of the Warriors' 10-0 fourth quarter run — that erased a four point deficit and created a six point Golden State lead.

The Celtics, undefeated after losses this post season, were led by Jayson Tatum, whose 23 points mostly came in the first three quarters. Tatum only scored one basket in the fourth. Some help came from Jaylen Brown (21 points), Marcus Smart (18 points) and Robert Williams III (12 points).

We hate to see the NBA Finals through simplistic filters, but there is a familiar pattern going on: Boston wins, Golden State wins, rinse and repeat. This would spell trouble for the Warriors at home in game 7, but getting to a game 7 after being down 2-1 would still be a good thing.

Through the first four games of the 2022 NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics have alternated wins. The Celtics opened the series with a win, and then the Warriors responded in Game 2. Boston then claimed victory in Game 3 only for Golden State to bounce back in Game 4. Now, both teams will be looking to claw ahead in a pivotal Game 5, which is set for Monday night in San Francisco.

Game 5 in a best-of-seven series is statistically important. Teams that win Game 5 when the series is tied at 2-2 go on to win that series over 80 percent of the time. This makes sense, as whichever team wins the fifth game will have two more chances to get one win, while the losing time will sit just a single loss away from elimination. With that said, here's everything you need to know about Game 5 between Boston and Golden State.

Four games have been played in the 2022 NBA Finals, and basketball's championship series now returns back to the Bay Area tied at two games apiece. The Golden State Warriors lost Game 1, the first finals contest at San Francisco's Chase Center, after the Boston Celtics exploded for 40 points in the fourth quarter.

The Dubs rebounded for a dominating Game 2 win in the best-of-seven series, but couldn't overcome strong performances by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart as Boston took home the win in Game 3. Steph Curry dropped 43 points on Friday, however, to lead the Warriors to victory and once again even up the series.

The public is heavily leaning towards the Dubs in Game 5. As of Monday morning, over two-thirds of all bets and nearly three-fourths of the money wagered against the four-point spread are on the home team to cover.

The total—set at 212 points—is much more polarizing amongst the betting public. This much is evidenced by 70 percent of the tickets coming in on the over, but only 45 percent of the handle has been taken for that side of the total.

The moneyline is seeing similarly lopsided trends. There are far more overall bets on the Warriors (61 percent) than the Celtics right now, but Boston is responsible for an overwhelming amount of the cash (87 percent) wagered on a straight-up win.

Bettors certainly shouldn’t sleep on the Celtics. The Eastern Conference champs emerged victorious in a pair of Game 7’s to reach this point and won’t be fazed by the hostile environment at the Chase Center this evening.
